    Rosebank college is a private tertiary institution that is home to over 17 000 students nationwide. The institution was voted Coolest College in South Africa in the 2017 and 2018 Sunday Times Generation Next Youth Survey.


    Client Brief

    The client required the design of branding collateral (a hoodie in this instance) for their students. The design had to encapsulate their brand identity which could be defined as one that is catchy, hip, modern and cool. We also had to incorporate their brand identity color scheme as well as core commitments.


    We started off by looking into the core commitments the institution made to its students in order to understand what students would expect from the institution’s branding collateral. From there we looked at the aesthetic vocabulary provided by the client through their styling guide, from this we could identify colors, typefaces and messaging hierarchies that would best fit the brand.


    We approached the design from an emblem design perspective, this meant that the design element had to be both aesthetically pleasing as well as functional in the context of brand messaging (I.e. it should communicate a specific message to the intended target market) We utilized the Client’s defined color scheme in the design and incorporated their core commitments of being a modern tertiary institution that prided itself in its ability to create work ready graduates. We utilized strategic aesthetic principles such as text hierarchy optimized to draw attention to important messaging elements first
